Romanian President Marks Rosh Hashanah With Message on Jewish Community's Role
President Nicușor Dan sent a Rosh Hashanah greeting to Romania's Jewish community, highlighting its historical contribution to modern Romanian society and the 90th anniversary of the Federation of Jewish Communities.
President Nicușor Dan has extended Rosh Hashanah greetings to Romania's Jewish community, praising its enduring role in shaping modern Romanian society. The message was read at a ceremony held at the Palace of the Parliament by honorary adviser Eugen Tomac, according to the Presidential Administration.
In his greeting, the president wished health and peace to the leadership of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania and to the entire Jewish community in the country on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year 5787. He underscored the dual significance of this year's holiday, which coincides with the 90th anniversary of the unification of Jewish communities and the founding of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania.
«This institution, with an essential role in preserving and affirming Jewish life in Romania, has proven over all these years to be a reliable interlocutor of the Romanian state, promoting both the interests of the Jewish community and its involvement as a civic partner in society,» the president said, as quoted by the Presidential Administration.
Nicușor Dan also emphasized the community's broader contribution to Romanian society. «Through culture and education, through their contribution to the economy and science, through their assumed participation in public life, the Jews of Romania have played an important role in the modern development of Romanian society and in shaping our country's destiny today,» he stated.
The president further reflected on the universal values that Rosh Hashanah evokes. «Rosh Hashanah reminds us that good coexistence, solidarity and human dignity are universal values that can unite people of different faiths and traditions, calling on us to strengthen the bonds between us and channel our energies into what we can build together,» he added.
The ceremony at the Palace of the Parliament brought together representatives of the Jewish community and state officials, marking both the holiday and the 90th anniversary of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania. The federation has served as a central representative body for Jewish life in the country since its establishment, acting as a partner to the Romanian state in matters concerning the community and civic society at large.
