The update allows users to manage appointments, send emails and even build websites simply by speaking, moving the voice assistant from a conversational novelty toward a practical tool for daily tasks.
The new capabilities rest on three models named GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna. These models power the voice interface and, according to the company, make it possible for the assistant to act on a user's behalf across connected services rather than only answering questions. The integration with email, calendar and Slack means the assistant can reach into the same applications many people already use to organise their working day.
OpenAI has long framed this direction as the goal of its assistant work. CEO Sam Altman has repeatedly compared the company's ambitions to the AI companion in the science-fiction film «Her», in which a person interacts with an operating system that manages much of his digital life through conversation. The latest update brings that comparison closer to reality, at least in the range of tasks the voice assistant can attempt.
