ChatGPT with GPT-6 ditches mostly text output for interactive UI with charts, buttons, and mini apps

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 with a feature called Intelligent UI that transforms chatbot answers from plain text into interactive interfaces. Instead of returning paragraphs alone, the model can now generate charts, buttons, forms, and mini apps directly within a response, according to the company.

The shift marks a significant departure from the text-heavy output that has defined conversational AI since ChatGPT's debut. Users will be able to interact with data, make selections, and complete tasks without leaving the chat window. The interfaces are generated dynamically by the model, meaning the format adapts to the query rather than following a fixed template.

OpenAI says GPT-6 can also respond while it is still thinking, a technical change that cuts wait times by 44 percent. That means users begin receiving parts of an answer before the model has finished its full reasoning process, reducing the pause that typically precedes a complete response.

The rollout is tiered. Paying customers will receive access to GPT-6 Sol, while free users will get GPT-6 Luna. The company did not specify what distinguishes the two versions beyond their availability to different user groups, but the naming suggests a deliberate segmentation of capability or speed.

Intelligent UI could reshape how people use AI for tasks that involve comparison, planning, or data exploration. A request for financial projections, for example, might return an adjustable chart rather than a table in prose. A travel query could produce a booking-style form. A coding question might generate a small interactive demo. These are the kinds of outputs the feature is designed to support.

The move also raises questions about the future of AI interfaces. If models can build their own mini apps on the fly, the line between a chatbot and a software platform becomes harder to draw. OpenAI appears to be positioning ChatGPT less as a text generator and more as a general-purpose workspace where answers are things users can manipulate, not just read.

For developers and businesses, the change could open new ways to embed AI into products. Instead of building separate front-end components for every use case, they could rely on the model to generate the interface itself. That approach may reduce development time but also introduces new challenges around consistency, accessibility, and control over how information is presented.

OpenAI has not announced a specific date for the full rollout, and it remains unclear how quickly the feature will reach all users. The company has been steadily adding multimodal and interactive capabilities to its models, and GPT-6 with Intelligent UI represents the most ambitious step yet in that direction.

The launch comes as competition in the AI sector intensifies, with rivals also pushing beyond simple text responses. OpenAI's decision to make interactive output a core part of GPT-6 suggests the company believes the next phase of AI adoption will depend on how naturally these systems fit into everyday digital tasks.
