Pope Leo XIV will visit Argentina from November 8 to 11, the Holy See has confirmed, as part of a Latin American tour that also takes in Uruguay and Peru between November 6 and 17. The Argentine stop includes activities in Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján, and marks a return to a continent where the pontiff has spent many years of his life.

In a message shared on his social media accounts, the pope said he was filled with joy at returning to the continent. "May this journey be an occasion to open our hearts to one another, to strengthen our communion as brothers and sisters, and to renew our commitment to proclaim the Gospel with joy," he wrote, tagging his visits to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru.

The announcement came the same day the Vatican published a detailed update on the pope's health, two weeks after he underwent surgery. The Holy See Press Office said the recovery is continuing in line with positive assessments from his medical team, that he has gradually resumed his activities while prioritizing rest, and that recent clinical evaluations found no obstacle to the trip. The statement also said that further oncological treatment is not required. Earlier, the pontiff had postponed a planned visit to Assisi on medical advice following surgery for lung cancer.

According to the official schedule, the pope will land at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires on Sunday, November 8, at 4:30 p.m. local time, coming from Uruguay. He will first visit the monument to General José de San Martín in the plaza bearing his name, then attend an official reception at the Casa Rosada, where he is due to meet the President of the Nation. The day will close with an encounter with diplomats and civil representatives at the Palacio Libertad.

On Monday, November 9, the pope is scheduled to begin at the Pequeño Cottolengo Don Orione in Claypole, greeting workers and residents. At 11:30 a.m. he will lead a large religious service at the Monumento de los Españoles in the city of Buenos Aires. In the afternoon he will meet with labor sector representatives at the Universidad Católica Argentina and hold talks with leaders of various religious denominations at the Palacio San Martín. The day will end with vespers at the Metropolitan Cathedral alongside bishops and synod members, followed by an episcopal dinner.

On Tuesday, November 10, the delegation will travel to Córdoba, and the pope is set to leave for Lima on Wednesday, November 11. Across those four days he will hold worship ceremonies, protocol meetings and audiences with a range of community figures. The Holy See described the trip as an opportunity to strengthen communion with local churches and to bring a message of faith, hope and peace to the peoples of Uruguay, Argentina and Peru.
